What Will You Be Doing?

At Motus Commercials we are looking for 1 new HGV Technician to join our DAF Dealership in Wrexham.

You will spend most of your time in our Workshop maintaining vehicles to the high standards, carrying out inspections, repairs and services as well as carrying out roadside repairs to recover vehicles...

Analysis and diagnostics vehicles are also a critical part of this role to ensure we exceed our Customers’ expectations.

As DAF HGV Technician you will be required to service and repair our Motus Customer vehicles in a safe and economical manner employing such skills and knowledge as may be required, including the ability to diagnose fault with the minimum supervision using the tools and equipment provided in safe and proper way, efficiently and within the allocated time and to the required standard.

Key Accountabilities

  1. To observe, recognise and report on vehicle or component defects or symptoms of impending failure.
  2. To examine vehicles completely and report orally or in writing upon the vehicles condition, safety and reliability and performance (MOT).
  3. To interpret and implement technical service instructions data, and to indent such information for replacement.
  4. To carry out roadside repairs and to recover defective or damaged vehicles within the terms of the law. Fully comply with Manufacturers protocol and policies and safe working at roadside. Part of the DAFaid out of hours callout standby team.
  5. To draw the Supervisor/Workshop Controllers attention to any faults notice in either the interests of the owner or other faults that could make the vehicle dangerous or illegal if taken out on a public highway.
  6. To protect all vehicles under repair against damage and to inspect each vehicle for damage and cleanliness upon completion of repair.
  7. To attend recognised courses of instruction as and when required and to assist in the training of apprentices upon assignment.
  8. To maintain a high standard of cleanliness within the working area and a presentable personal appearance whilst observing the Group Health & Safety and Environmental Policy at all times.
  9. To report any broken or faulty equipment to your Supervisor/Manager in line with our Group Health & Safety Policy.
  10. To always seek permission before fitting parts to customers vehicles that have not been previously authorised and to return parts for warranty and customer inspection at all times.
  11. To ensure all service and maintenance sheets, customer defect reports, manufacturer paperwork and electronic documentation, i.e. DAF-check, PDI sheets are fully completed and signed off.

Performance Evaluation

  1. To evaluate performance when all mechanical components can be stripped and re-assembled efficiently.
  2. To evaluate performance when faults can be diagnosed, remedied and job instructions carried out.
  3. To evaluate performance when requisitions for parts can be accurately completed and obtained so that wasted time is avoided as far as possible within the workshop system.
  4. To evaluate performance when the jobs are tackled with the common sense and initiative expected from a skilled technician.
  5. To evaluate performance to maintain a current driving license for the class of vehicle being serviced or repaired.

 

Health and Safety Responsibilities

Observe, apply and comply with the Group Health, Safety and Environment Policy at all times. You have a duty of care to yourself and others who may be affected by your acts or omission, therefore ensure you work in a safe and responsible manner at all times following any guidance the company have given you E.G Method Statements, Toolbox talks.

 

To participate in Company health and safety training and development programmes and to ensure Company policies are implemented/followed on all occasions.

Who Are We Looking for?

We are looking for someone with previous dealership/ HGV Workshop experience who has the experience and knowledge of truck, trailer, van and ancillary equipment maintenance and repairs.  You will require the ability to work both in a team and alone.

It would be of an advantage but not essential to hold:

  • Experience in use of computer diagnostic equipment.
  • Irtec Licence
  • HGV Class 1 or 2 Licence
  • Tachograph Licence.

Consideration of how you will travel to and from work must be taken as the working pattern will be over 40 hours a week

 

The successful candidate will have: 

  • A relevant formal qualification (City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Repair) with a proven track record in vehicle repair and servicing
  • The ability to follow instructions and procedures
  • A full valid UK driving license

A HGV licence is a distinct advantage for this role.
